Kenny Chesney says, "I'll be OK"
I had guessed that Kenny Chesney would respond to announcement that Renee Zellweger was seeking an annulment of their marriage by Monday or Tuesday and he has...sort of...
He reassures his fans that he'll be OK following the breakup, but that is the sort of non-responsive response of someone who doesn't have anything positive to say for himself. I understand the desire to keep your private life private, but that cat is out of the bag so it's far too late for that.
If he were a rock star rather than a country star, he could simply lay low for a couple of months and everyone would forget about it soon enough. But he's not...
If he thinks that this is going to satisfy his fans, he's wrong. As I mentioned in a previous post, country music fans aren't about to let go of this - especially because of the claims of marital fraud. Witness the fact that the Dixie Chicks' career has never been the same since their decision to turn a concert into a political statement against the president. That was just politics: this is about family, and country fans don't take that sort of thing lightly.
If he did something wrong or there was a difference over whether to have children, then he really needs to come out with it. In the absence of facts, people will simply stay away from a man they assume has something to hide.
It's one of those moments when he's going to have to choose: his career or his privacy...He can't have it both ways after this...
