Gibson says new film has "mythic proportions"
Mel Gibson has set yet another daunting challenge for himself: making a film in ancient Mayan. If he hadn't already had the stunning success of "The Passion of the Christ" which was done in the dead language of Arameic, people would probably call him crazy. (Though some have done just that anyway.)
I doubt it will achieve the commercial success of "The Passion of the Christ" simply because it doesn't touch on the raw nerve of religion in the same way, but film critics love subtitled films - it makes them feel very cultured and intelligent - so my guess is that it will be well received when it is finally released.
Once again, he's bankrolling it himself which means he stands to make another bundle of cash if the film proves successful. I have to respect someone who's willing to put his own money on the line to make a project he believes in - no matter how the film turns out...
